The Global Alliance For The Rights of Older Persons (GAROP) has launched a petition urging governments to support the drafting of a United Nations (UN) convention on the rights of older people.

Please consider joining us in supporting GAROP to collect as many signatures as possible.

From the GAROP campaign page: “This year is the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, but many older people are not able to enjoy the rights that the Declaration was written to uphold.

Older people tell us they face violence, abuse and neglect and struggle to access justice. They face health problems and cannot access the care and support they need. And they can find themselves unable to live their lives with dignity because they cannot enjoy these and other human rights.

We are the Global Alliance for the Rights of Older People, a network of over 400 member organisations from around 80 countries working to strengthen and promote older people’s rights.

Older people are invisible in the current international human rights framework.

Older people want to be seen, they want to be heard and they want to realise their rights.

A lot of evidence has already been presented at the UN showing that a convention is urgently needed. Older people must have equal access to health, education, work, financial security and an adequate standard of living. All of our rights must be promoted and protected as we age.

It’s time to take action and start drafting.”

It’s time for all of us to #AgeWithRights
